3 Tips to Keep Your Fashion Budget in Check

Happy New Year, gorgeous! I hope you had a safe and fun holiday weekend. Ian and I did our annual New Years camping excursion with some friends, and though I am more of a sparkle and glam kinda gal, I couldn’t of asked for a better way to spend the last few days of 2016. Plus there were giant bonfires every night and hot cocoa. You cannot not have a bad time when those two things are present…

Oh and Ian and I got to go flying and spend a day at the beach which is always a good time. But I am so excited to be home, hah.

2016 was the year I created The Beautiful Melody and it was the year I learned a lot about budgeting. I have always had a love for fashion and shopping, but for some reason when I began blogging I felt like I needed everything I saw on my social media channels or in magazines. I quickly realized I was wrong and my bank account thanked me…

So today’s blog post, I am sharing 3 tips on what has helped me save money while still keeping up with the trends in the fashion world because, just because you may be on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t be trendy and très chic!

Let’s get started!

1. Create a Wish List

Ever since I was a little girl, I would go through my American Girl and Pottery Barn Kids magazines and bend the corners of pages, and circle and draw stars next to the items I really wanted (if it had multiple stars, then I REALLY wanted it).

Besides the types of magazines, not much has changed…

Marking items and creating a list not only helps me break down what I want, but it also helps me realize what I actually need and what I don’t.

2. Look at What you Have Already

I can’t tell you how many times I see something online or in a magazine and think to myself, or show Ian and say, “Oh my goodness, I NEEEED this!” and then I go home and realize I have something oh so similar already sitting in my closet.

(Proofreading this post, I laugh at the amount of times I say “realize”. I am now wondering who realized stuff more this year, me or Kylie Jenner…)

3. Always Always Keep Your Budget

This is the most important step to saving money is to knowing your limit.

As social media continues to impact our everyday lives, we almost feel obligated to live the fabulous and glamorous Instagram lifestyles in order to fit in. This is so not true and there are so many things out there just as fabulous and glamorous in everyone’s price range!

Take these over the knee boots I am wearing, for example. This style boot blew up on social media in the beginning of fall and I wanted a pair so bad, but they were all between $400-$800. I obviously didn’t purchase those, but I stuck to my budget, did some research and found these amazing OTK boots for 53% off!

They are so cute, comfortable, extremely less than what I expected to spend on this trendy shoe, and I could not be happier. Below I have linked a few OTK boots under $100. Nordstrom Rack and HauteLook are two of my favorite online stores when looking for great deals. 😉

Thank you so much for stopping by and be sure to follow along on InstagramPinterest, Twitter, and Facebook  for daily inspo!
