9 Essentials For a Tropical Vacation

Hi Gorgeous! I hope you had a wonderful Easter weekend. It has been raining since Sunday here in California, and let’s just say I am just so not used to this sort of weather this late in the year!

As you may have seen on Instagram and/or Snapchat, earlier this month I spent a week in Belize! While some places were still being developed, other places like the jungle and beach resorts were SO beautiful! Ian and I had at least one to two smoothies everyday, and their breakfast burritos– yummm!

Now that I am over here craving one of their breakfast burritos, let’s get started on the 9 essentials to pack for a tropical vacation! Keep in mind, that I was able to pack all of these items with only a carry-on!

Lots and lots of swimwear. I love bringing a few styles: wrap bikinis, one pieces, strapless, etc. and then mixing and matching it throughout the trip.

Style Tip: Pair your one piece or one of your wrap bikini tops with high-waisted shorts or a cute mini skirt! Utilizing your suits as tops helps minimize your packing, but also creates a super cute tropical look. Revolve has some of THE cutest swimwear!!

If you plan to relax on the beach, a cute sun hat is a must. I will typically carry mine on the plane if the brim is too wide.

I always pack at least two kimonos when I travel to a tropical destination. They can be used as a cover-up, or I also love adding one with my tank and shorts to add some color and print. They are super lightweight, so getting too hot with an extra layer isn’t an issue.

Style Tip: Another reason why kimonos are an essential, is because you can also dress them up if you are going out to dinner! They are super cute with a wedge heel.

Ones that don’t wrinkle are even better, or ones that don’t show the wrinkles, hah. Loose-fitting sundresses are a nice break from the shorts and a tank uniform, and they can also act as a coverup!

Strappy sandals is a fun way to dress up your casual wear, especially if you’re just a tank and shorts kind of girl like I am at humid locations.

But I must admit, before the trip I purchased a pair of Birkenstock sandals and they were literally the only thing I wore (besides my sneakers when we went on adventures where close-toed shoes were required).

These sandals are SO comfortable and only $35! I have them in white, but they have 8 colors and I am thinking about getting either the pink or bright blue ones next. I never thought I would be a Birkenstock girl, but I can’t get over the comfort and they’re actually really cute on!

I typically pack one to two pairs of denim shorts; one high-waisted and one not, but the rest are always lightweight shorts with cute bold prints on them! It enhances the tropical vibes and is always a summer favorite!

Nordstrom has some really cute lightweight shorts. I am loving these palm tree print shorts (only $45!).

Don’t overpack too many accessories. I like to pack about 2 or 3 pieces (necklaces & earrings) that I can wear to dinner or during a day of shopping, if you’re going somewhere with cute shops.

My monogram necklace and a pair of tassel earrings are always my jewelry essentials when traveling. They always go with everything which I love!!

I specify to cotton because it absorbs moisture and is a lightweight fabric that doesn’t tend to wrinkle! They also don’t take up a lot of room in your suitcase and is comfortable to wear.

This is something I usually wear on the plane because I am always cold while up in the air, but it is also great to have when traveling to tropical destinations because of the rain that may occur while you’re there.

Thank you SO much for stopping by The Beautiful Melody! Below I have linked a few of the items mentioned throughout today’s post. What are some of your packing essentials?
