Transitioning into seasons can be a little awkward. Especially when it is transitioning into spring, aka the most indecisive season. Pretty sure it is more indecisive than I am when Ian asks what I want for dinner…
As the new season approaches, it is natural to get excited to pull out your favorite pieces to wear, but when is it “officially” okay to wear them?
Before you ask Echo, Alexa, Siri, or any other intelligent assistant robot out there, “what day is [insert upcoming season]”, keep reading to find out how to take those pieces now and to successfully create the perfect transitional outfit!
I will be going over the 50/50 rule and 3 style tips to keeping your outfits balanced between seasons, so let’s get to it!
The 50/50 Rule:
First let’s talk about what this 50/50 rule is. It is the essential factor to keeping your outfit perfectly balanced. 50% spring pieces, 50% winter pieces. Though today’s post/look is specifically focusing on transitioning from winter to spring, this rule applies to all transitional outfits.
Style Tip: Transitional Prints
Just like colors, there are prints that are tied to seasons. For example, houndstooth and plaid are both prints that are more incorporated into fall and winter outfits; whereas, floral and gingham are both widely popular prints during spring.
Style Tip: Transitional Outerwear
My all time favorite transitional outerwear piece is a denim jacket. It is never too soon to wear it and it goes with everything. I have a few different shades of denim jackets, but I am obsessed with my lighter wash. It’s a personal preference, but I also think it helps lighten my looks making it more spring/summery.
Style Tip: Transitional Shoes
Flats are the perfect transitional shoe. You can wear a softer color for a spring vibe, or a warmer color for a more winter vibe. I linked a super cute ballet flat in blush below!
As for me, I am a sandal or boot girl, so my perfect transitional shoe is a open-toed bootie. Nordstrom has a excellent selection!
In today’s post I am wearing a pretty dark outfit, but to make it the perfect transitional look, I brought out the blues from the flowers in my top by pairing it with my light denim jacket, my blue espadrille wedges (the perfect spring shoe!), and my lighter shade handbag. Voilà! There you have a stylish and chic outfit incorporating the 50/50 rule!
Below I have listed 18 pieces perfect for transitioning into spring, all under $50!! What’s your favorite spring print? Comment below. I have also linked a similar espadrille wedge for under $100, here!
