During my “younger” years, I would have never risked mixing prints. I always thought that mixing prints meant you weren’t matching. Though there is some truth in that, today on The Beautiful Melody I am sharing 5 style tips on how to mix prints like a pro because this style is such a fun way to elevate your everyday look!
Let’s get started!
1. Play with Scale
Playing with different sizes of patterns, or different scales of the same print will help decipher which area you want to be the focal point of your outfit. I really love the look of the same print in different sizes. It’s subtle and pairs really well together.
2. Match at Least One Color
To bring the look together, make sure that both prints have at least one matching color. For my outfit, I chose my navy blue flannel to pair with my navy striped tee. Want to mix prints that don’t have a matching color in it? Bring in a solid color that compliments both!
3. Treat Stripes as a Neutral
If you are new to mixing prints, this is a great style tip to get started! When in doubt, I always turn to stripes because I know they work with everything from polka dots to floral prints and everything in between; you seriously can’t go wrong with stripes.
4. Use Accessories
Another fun and easy way to mix your prints is through your accessories! I am a huge leopard fan when it comes to accessories. I have a few pairs of leopard heels and scarves. I love the little bit of sass it brings, but I also love it because it is a print that works with all colors and all prints! PS. I am obsessing over these leopard slip-ons for a more casual look!
5. Have fun with it!
Above are all just personal style tips that I have found worked for me through experimenting (not everything always turns out good first try, ha). So I highly recommend having fun styling with prints as well and see what you can come up with!
